Marshall Field III (1893-1956) was an American businessman, newspaper publisher, and philanthropist. He was the grandson of Marshall Field, founder of the Marshall Field and Company department store in Chicago.
As a young man, Field III served in World War I as a pilot in the United States Army Air Service. After the war, he became involved in journalism and publishing, and in 1926 he founded the Chicago Sun newspaper.
Field III was also a philanthropist, supporting various causes and organizations throughout his life. He was passionate about aviation and helped fund the development of air travel in the United States. He also supported medical research and the arts.
In addition to his business and philanthropic activities, Field III was known for his adventurous spirit. He participated in various hunting expeditions and even flew a plane over the North Pole in 1930.
Field III died in 1956 at the age of 63. His legacy lives on through the organizations he supported and the impact he had on the world of business and philanthropy.
